JCB ADDS LEVER STEER OPTION TO NEW CONTROLS PACKAGE

The 457S JCB Wheel Loader operating with a grass fork attachment in an Agricultural setting

JCB has developed a Lever Steer option for its large platform wheeled loaders, designed to deliver enhanced comfort and control for the operator, particularly in repetitive loading operations.

Available as part of the company’s JCB Controls option pack, the Lever Steer option is incorporated into an ergonomically-designed lever armrest that sits to the left of the operator’s seat.

Lever Steer is a new option that allows the operator to steer the machine with a fingertip control lever, rather than using the steering wheel, greatly reducing operator effort in repetitive loading and stockpiling operations. The armrest sidepod can be fully adjusted for height and tilt, delivering the perfect driving position for operators of all sizes. When not in use, the armrest can be folded back, leaving clear, unobstructed access to the seat when entering and leaving the machine. This also allows user to switch seamlessly switch between Lever Steer Mode or conventional Steering Wheel Control, depending on their operating preference.

Along with the steering lever, which can be thumb controlled, the sidepod has fingertip switches for transmission forward and reverse control, a kickdown button, a horn and a control for the front windscreen wipers. This allows the operator to carry out a range of digging and loading tasks without having to take their left hand off the steering control, while their right hand is operating the lift arm, bucket or attachment controls.

The Lever Steer system is available for the 457 and 457 Agri models, along with the 457S. It can also be supplied with the 427/437 loaders and the 435S. Lever Steer enhances versatility, manoeuvrability and productivity, potentially reducing repetitive cycle times and reducing fatigue for the operator, as there is no requirement for constant turning of the steering wheel when moving forwards and back from a stockpile or digging face.

Lever Steer is part of the second phase of JCB’s Controls introduction, following the launch of the Intelliweigh system and new screen guards. Further enhancing safety for the operator, the Lever Steer machines also include a three-point seat belt as standard.
