A leading shredding services provider has slashed its emissions and fuel costs with a fleet of JCB electric Teletruks.
Shred Station is the world's largest independent shredding service provider and has been destroying confidential materials for over 15 years. While the company mostly destroys paper-based materials, other services include textile shredding, hard drive and media storage destruction, product shredding and much more. Shred Station's services are fully accredited, environmentally friendly, and nothing it shreds goes to landfill.
With that focus on the environment as a key pillar of its operations, Shred Station took the decision to invest in the electrification of its equipment fleet.
Charging ahead
Shred Station invested in six new JCB 30-19E electric Teletruks to replace existing diesel models at its Norwich site. Supplied by dealer Watling JCB, they are are deployed to transport bales of shredded paper around the depot, stacking them safely and maximising space. They are also responsible for loading the bales onto trucks ready to be transported to Shred Station’s recycling facilities.
These unique forklifts feature a telescopic boom instead of a conventional vertical mast, providing unrivalled forward visibility, forward reach and on-site safety.
As Shred Station currently uses roughly 200 litres of diesel each week per Teletruk, by switching six of its Teletruks to electric models, it is saving approximately 62,400 litres of diesel per year – and with fuel costs having spiralled that is bringing massive cost savings to the business.

Shred Station’s Norwich Warehouse Manager, Lloyd Quinton said: “At Shred Station, reducing our environmental impact is a key pillar of our ethos. We’ve been carbon neutral certified for four years now and we’re always looking for ways to reduce our emissions even further. Our forklifts are running constantly, and as a result of that, use a lot of fuel. Making the switch from diesel models to the new electric models will not only save our diesel usage, it will also reduce our overall carbon emissions."

A silent revolution
In 1997, JCB developed a unique industrial forklift truck with a telescopic boom instead of a conventional vertical mast. The JCB Teletruk provides unrivalled forward visibility, forward reach and large lift capacity, dramatically improving safety, while saving time, space and money. 11 models are available including LPG or diesel options, plus the new electric 30-19E and 35-22E.
Thanks to its electric driveline, the 30-19E and 35-22E can climb a 21% gradient or ramp with ease and productivity is further enhanced with full free lift of 1,575mm as standard. Like all Teletruk models, the electric models also feature a side-mounted boom and using the unique telescopic forward reach, it has a lift capacity of 1,900kg at 2 metres on the 30-19E, and 2,200kg on the 35-22E, meaning palletised loads can be loaded to the far side of a curtain-sided trailer.
Because they are battery-powered, the JCB 30-19E and 35-22E are supremely quiet and produce zero emissions at the point of use - making it suited to tasks inside a building, while its fully sealed, weather-proof body protects the machine's driveline and other key components from the elements when the Teletruk is required to work in the yard.
