In just a decade since inception, McKinty Construction Ltd has grown into a versatile construction powerhouse.
Founded in Northern Ireland, the business operates a fleet of JCB machinery to tackle agricultural and commercial projects from greenfield sites through to completion.
Like its trusted partner JCB, McKinty’s central ethos is an ongoing commitment to quality customer service, centred around an ongoing investment in JCB products which are integral to their growth and success. As Director, Darren McKinty voices: “It’s all about being efficient, doing a good job for our customers, and getting the work done.”
And that’s just what they do…
Raising standards
Safety and sustainability are top priorities for McKinty Construction Ltd, and so the new JCB electric diesel hybrid JCB A45EH articulated boom platform ticked all the boxes. The company has invested in two of the first models to reach Northern Ireland.
As Director Darren McKinty explains: “Keeping employees safe is our main concern and being able to run the machines from batteries whenever possible is key. Not using diesel means no noise, and because we are able to charge the machines at night it’s more economical too.”

The A45EH uses a 14.8kW three-cylinder diesel engine and a 7.5kWa generator to power the machine’s eight 6V batteries. The engine is mounted on a swing-out tray, making it easier to service and maintain when required. A 40-litre fuel tank provides more than enough fuel for a full week of operation, making the machine an ideal low emission platform for more remote locations. The battery can also be plugged into a mains supply when available as is often the case for McKinty.
The machine has four-wheel drive and two-wheel steering as standard. The wheels are driven by four AC motors and these motors recover energy through regenerative braking, to prolong battery performance. As drive is provided to each individual wheel, the machine is capable of climbing up to 40% gradients. An oscillating axle ensures that maximum traction is maintained on rough ground when the boom is stowed. However, the axle is locked, to ensure machine stability, when the machine enters boom raise mode. Foam-filled, non-marking tyres are standard.
McKinty Construction Ltd’s investment in the A45EH articulated boom further complements their operations, providing a safe, silent, and economical solution for working at height. Its hybrid technology not only aligns with sustainability goals but also delivers cost savings by allowing overnight charging for next-day use.

A decade of reliability
McKinty Construction Ltd’s relationship with JCB began alongside their longstanding partnership with Dennison JCB. Over the years, the company has invested in a range of JCB equipment, including the ever-popular 140X tracked excavator from the X Series range and three rough terrain forklifts.
As Darren said: “Dennisons have been very good to us over the years, and we want to support them in return. It’s how customer relationships should work. Their back up service is excellent and we’re happy with what we have and will continue to invest because the machines come to work and give us no problems. We want to buy as many JCB machines through them as possible and the back-up we’ve received has given us the confidence to do that.
“We like that JCB are a British company so we’re supporting our own economy by investing in their machinery. JCB machines are robust, driver friendly, comfortable, the controls aren’t too complicated, and the team likes them as everything is at hand.”
So strong is McKinty Construction Ltd’s relationship with Dennisons JCB that they consider them a valued customer themselves, helping out with large-scale commercial projects on an ongoing basis.
From commercial warehousing to delivering Ireland’s largest state of the art bull stud for AI Services - McKinty Construction Ltd relies on JCB machines to enhance productivity and efficiency.
