Leading construction equipment manufacturer JCB is featuring one of its largest and strongest Loadall telescopic handlers—the 509-42. According to Stuart Fox, Loadall Product Manager for JCB North America in Savannah, Ga., the 509-42 is among JCB’s most dependable, robust lift-and-place telescopic handlers.

“The 509-42 is one of our six machines in the line of high-boom, lift-and-place Loadalls with capacities ranging from 6,000 to 14,000 lbs,” Fox said. “With this high-capacity, high-lifting machine, we’re accommodating an important, growing sector of the market.”

The rugged and durable 509-42 Loadall can elevate a maximum load of 9,000 lbs, with a maximum lift height of 42 feet. The machine is equipped with sway control and rear axle stabilization as standard features for superior chassis leveling when the boom is raised, enabling it to place massive loads at height without sacrificing safety. Its combination of power and lifting height make it ideal for lifting and placing heavy items at construction and industrial sites.

The JCB 509-42 Loadall Telescopic Handler offers a broad range of features and benefits to owners and operators:

Versatile High-Boom Design. The 509-42’s boom is positioned high for optimum operator visibility when working or traveling. A hydraulic cylinder mounted underneath the outer boom extends the boom’s second stage, with chains used to extend the third stage, resulting in increased cycle times and productivity. The JCB boom features a tough inverted U-shaped boom pressing with fully welded closing plates. This design results in extra strength due to the reduced number of joints and stress points across the boom. This unique “U-press” boom design uses a Waxoyl lubricant exclusive to JCB. The Waxoyl lubricant is dry to the touch, thus it does not attract sand or dirt that could potentially harm the engine, which reduces service costs and extends the life of the boom. The boom’s quick-hitch enables operators to use a wide variety of attachments on the 509-42, further enhancing its versatility and productivity.

Side-Mounted JCB Tier IV Interim Ecomax Engine. With a side-mounted, 109hp version of JCB’s EPA and CARB-compliant Tier IVi Ecomax Engine, the 509-42 has power to spare. The JCB Ecomax is efficient to own and operate; featuring 7% greater fuel efficiency than its predecessor, and most importantly, it does not require any regeneration or exhaust after-treatment such as costly heat resistant lube oils or AdBlue. The engine’s high level of torque delivers excellent tractive effort in soft ground conditions. A standard four-speed JCB Powershift Transmission provides effortless gear changes while the machine is on the move. Mounted at a 90-degree angle to the machine’s frame, the engine is easily accessible for servicing and maintenance. Also on JCB’s high-boom telescopic handlers, this side-mounted engine creates a high level of parts commonality that allows dealers and operators of multiple-machine fleets to maintain fewer parts in inventory.

Heavy-Duty JCB Axles. The 509-42 features JCB Axles with torque-proportioning differentials as standard equipment. Heavy-axle shafts and outboard planetary hubs offer long service life and reduce repair and maintenance costs over the life of the machine. Service brakes are self-adjusting oil-immersed discs that require no maintenance.

Comfort and Safety. Operators can comfortably and safely enter and exit the 509-42’s low-mounted, spacious cab. Inside the ergonomically-designed cab, a large right-hand cluster provides at-a-glance reading of the machine’s instrument display. The cab’s easy-to-operate plus-pattern servo hydraulic control lever features proportional and flow-share capability for precise control with fast cycle times.

Outside the cab, operators can choose from several tire options—air-filled, eco ballast, puncture sealant, solid and foam-filled. As a result, operators can ensure that the 509-42’s tires will meet the demands of the terrain present at their individual job sites.

“JCB is the world’s best-selling telescopic handler producer,” said Chris Giorgianni, VP of Product for JCB North America. “Our success comes from a history of innovation and engineering excellence backed by our customer focus. The 509-42 is just one example of how we listen to our customers and design machines to better meet their needs.”
