JCB has introduced its latest machine purpose-built and designed specifically for military use – the 527-58M light capacity rough terrain forklift. This machine joins JCB’s wide range of more than 300 “commercial off-the-shelf” (COTS) solutions for military applications. The 527-58M will be built at JCB’s North American headquarters in Savannah, Georgia, which in 2015 also became the home of JCB’s Government and Defense division.
“Nations across the globe use equipment manufactured by our Government and Defense division,” said John Kyler, JCB’s Government and Defense Product Manager. “Over the years, we’ve gained a true understanding of military organizations and how they use their equipment—from reconstruction work on humanitarian missions to preparing defense positions in the field to loading and unloading aircraft. The 527-58M is another example of how JCB has been able to take that innate understanding and develop a machine that can tackle the toughest military applications under the most grueling conditions.”
Modeled after JCB’s industry-leading range of commercial telescopic handlers, the 527-58M is ideal for loading and unloading containers or transport vehicles. The machine offers class-leading performance and productivity with a maximum lift capacity in excess of 5,000 lbs (2.45 tons) and a maximum lift height of 19 ft (5.8 m). The 527-58M is also compatible with a full line of attachments, including ground-engaging tools, making it incredibly versatile.
Powered by a JCB DieselMax engine, the 527-58M features a variable-speed hydrostatic transmission, flow-share hydraulics and multi-mode steering, including two-wheel, four-wheel and crab modes. A low boom pivot and low-profile engine cover provide maximum all-around visibility, while an ergonomic cab keeps operators safe, comfortable and productive.
Various enhancements make the machine capable of taking on the even most challenging military tasks. Cold-start capability means the 527-58M is ready to go at a moment’s notice in any climate, while its exceptional maneuverability allows it to work in confined spaces as well as in and around motor pools. It’s certified for use with military fuels and lubricants, making it more convenient to maintain and operate abroad. The 527-58M is available with optional features such as winterization, waterproofing and integrated towing and recovery points, allowing military organizations to get the machine that best meets their unique needs.
The 527-58M features a two-year service warranty and extended service intervals including a 500-hour engine oil service. Parts are available from distribution centers and dealers in JCB’s worldwide network.
“Regardless of where an organization uses the 527-58M, or any of our other specialized military machines, it can rest assured knowing support and service are not far away,” Kyler said. “JCB’s ability to provide comprehensive logistic support and service ensures maximum machine uptime. Whether you need a machine that can transport and lift materials, excavate, drill or generate power, we have a solution.”
